What you need to bring and what you need to know for your introduction session
Thanks for booking your introduction mantrailing session. I can't wait to introduce you to this fun, new dog sport! In the meantime, here's some useful information for the day:
- Please bring at least 2 small tupperware type pots which seal well. Usually you'll need 6 pots per mantrailing day, but for the introduction, bring along 2. (Don't buy anything special until you've seen what we do! If you don't have the pots I have plenty you can borrow on the day.)
- Please bring some really, really tasty treats. The "lickier" they are the better! I use sardines in oil for my dogs but you could also use wet dog food. This should be a treat your dogs don't ever get any other time - I'll explain why on the day.

Two tupperware type pots - baked bean tin for size. Note the amount of treats we'll be using in the blue pot.
- Please bring two personal items such as a hat, glove, sock etc each in a plastic bag. This will be your scented article for the dog to use to find you.

- Your dog will need to trail in a harness. Please don't buy one if you don't have one, I have plenty you can use and, again I will explain what type of harness you need so don't want you to get the wrong ones.
- If you have a long line, please bring it along. I have plenty for you to use so you won't ever need to buy one unless you want to!
- Please also bring a pair of gloves. If your dog pulls it is advised to wear gloves to prevent any burn.
- On the introduction session the dogs will spend a bit of time in your car. This is for safety but also so your dog can rest and also not be distracted by the other dogs. It is therefore important to have a bed or something similar in your car on the day and we need to make sure your car is well ventilated too. Someone will be in sight of your car at all times. Dogs are worked individually when trailing.
- Please note we will be trailing outdoors and sometimes on uneven ground, please wear appropriate footwear and clothing.
- Please bring a water bowl for your dog
- Mantrailing Global emphasizes that this training does not qualify the dog-handler teams to take part in real life Search & Rescue scenarios.
- We would like to use photographs and videos of you and your dog trailing on social media, please let us know if you are not happy for us to do this.
